Time Of The Apes (1974)

Reiko Tokunaga, Hiroko Saito and Masaaki Kaji star in this 1974 26-episode TV series, later spliced into a 97-minute feature film. Saru No Gundan, a.k.a. Time Of The Apes or Army Of Monkeys, was written by Keiichi Abe, directed by Kiyo Sumi Fukazawa and Atsuo Okunaka, and produced by Masashi Tadakuma and Mataichi Takahasi. Loosely based on Pierre Boulle's La Planète Des Singes and commonly known as "the Japanese Planet Of The Apes", the series was about a female scientist and two children who travel through time and arrive in a future ruled by sentient apes. The trio then struggle to find a way to get back home to the 20th century.

I can't find a credit for the creative makeup design anywhere.

Time Of The Apes was issued on home video in 1988. You can watch it here without the Mystery Science Theater smart-arse comments.
