Hari Rhodes

Born in Cincinnati on 10th April 1932, Hari (Harry) Rhodes is best known in the Apes universe for playing Governor Breck's right hand man, Mr McDonald, in Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes (1972).

Growing up in poverty, Rhodes joined the US Marine Corps at the age of 15 where he rose to the rank of sergeant and served in Korea. From 1960 until 1992 he appeared in many TV shows including Mission: Impossible, Have Gun, Will Travel, Daktari, The Outer Limits, The Westerner, The Bold Ones: The Protectors, and as the leader of Kunta Kinte's village in the original series of Roots

His film appearances include Drums of Africa (1963), Shock Corridor (1963), The Satan Bug (1965), Mirage (1965) and Blindfold (1966). Following his appearance in Conquest he went on to star in Detroit 9000 (1973), Mayday at 40,000 Feet! (1976), The Hostage Heart (1977), Coma (1978) and Sharky's Machine (1981).

Finding fame also as a writer, Rhodes published A Chosen Few in 1965, inspired by his experiences as an African-American in the Marine Corps. A second novel, The Hollow And The Human, followed in 1976.

Rhodes suffered a fatal heart attack on 15th January 1992 in Canoga Park, Los Angeles, shortly before the premiere of his final project, Murder Without Motive: The Edmund Perry Story.
