In early March 1966, Arthur P. Jacobs
produced a nine-minute “studio pitch” in an attempt to gain funding for his
fledgling film project Planet Of The Apes.
The last six minutes of the presentation
was a live-action sequence featuring Edward G. Robinson as Dr Zaius and
Charlton Heston as Thomas, with James Brolin as Cornelius and Linda Harrison as
Zira. The footage successfully showed that actors in ape make-up (here designed
by Ben Nye) could be credible to audiences.
